Brooklyn Boatworks Explorers Program

Our new EXPLORERS PROGRAM offers Boatworks alums a chance to continue the exciting journey they began during our in-school Optimist program. Having completed this program, participants are eligible for at least three more years of structured activities along the waterfront and in the wood shop. Join us after school and weekends, as well as over the Summer and during school breaks.

Advancing through three levels of unique workshops, projects, and field trips, BKBW Explorers make measurable gains in STEM skills, life skills, and self-confidence while exploring new academic and career opportunities. All BKBW programming is completely free of charge.

Who Can Participate: BKBW Alums - any students who have previously participated in an Opti build at their school.

How to Register:

You MUST register in advance to participate. Event registration is typically available about a month in advance of the program. Fill out the form at the bottom of each event page to register. You will receive a confirmation email with a link to the permission slip. Please submit the permission slip no later than a week before the event. If you have any questions, please reach out to our Program Manager, Eleanor Haskin: eleanor@brooklynboatworks.com.

  • Spend your Spring Break with BKBW! Join us Monday 4/14 through Friday 4/18 from 10AM to 3PM to complete independent woodworking projects to take home at the end of the week. Weather permitting, we will also explore the waterfront of Brooklyn Bridge Park.

    Lunch will be provided.

  • Spend your Summer with BKBW! Join us for 3-day sessions (Tues-Thurs; 10AM-3PM) throughout July at our Boathouse in Brooklyn Bridge Park. Students will learn to sail their Optis off the Pier 4 Beach, and, on land, they will use their carpentry skills to complete personal woodworking projects. Students will also learn maritime skills like navigation and knot-tying, as well as explore the ecology of the Park.

Lunch will be provided. Sign up for any or all sessions.
